DRAWINGS
The original concept “10 Drawings” was shown in 1999 at the OR Gallery in Vancouver.
“10 Drawings” was started in 1997 using subjects from “Burnside Sk8 Park” in Portland Oregon where I was living at the time.
I added to the original skater concept by incorporating anonymous subjects I would see every day on the street in their street clothing, which is something I find very understated, especially in men. It is a departure from formal portraiture but intentional in its delivery. Turned away conveys a sense of detachment to the subject so clothing and texture is more apparent. I decided to return to this concept after 11 years and expand on the original figures viewed from behind making it an ongoing series of drawings along with newer concepts. The newer concepts being a more formal approach to portraiture of friends still retaining the street clothing theme.
